In the words of Wernher von Braun “Research is what I’m doing when I don’t know what I’m doing.” A research journal acts as an institution and provides a platform to communicate and understand the current problems and research. The Journal of Geographical Studies is the realization of the dreams of the faculty and research students of the Department of Geography, Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University), New Delhi. The Department of Geography is a DST-FIST and UGC DRS-I supported department and pioneer in the teaching and research in the application of remote sensing and GIS.

The first issue is in your hand. It is an online journal with a focus on multidisciplinary research having qualitative impact on the academics, people and society.  The objective of this journal is to provide a common platform to scientists, specialists and interested community for developing regional, national and international scientific cooperation in the framework of the research problems, improving research quality under the frisking of research ethics. It can be achieved only through constant interaction and involvement of scientists doing basic and applied research with social scientists and policy makers. The policies are like the steel framework of the development and these policies are prepared on the basis of the research conducted or presented by a specific community which includes academicians, research scholars, scientists, etc.

The journal presents an opportunity for the scientific community at both national and international level. It is hoped that this initiative will create a global network of scientists, academicians, research scholars, students, intending readers and policy makers for providing the knowledge and support to accelerate transformations for a sustainable and better world.

The discipline of Geography acts as a bridge between social sciences (human geography) and natural sciences (physical geography). Geography puts this understanding of social and physical processes within the context of places and regions - recognizing the differences in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes and environments at local, regional and global scale and the links between them.

The Journal of Geographical Studies is a biannual peer review journal. It follows the publication ethics and determined to maintain the high standards of research. The journal is interested in publishing original research in the field of Geography related to physical process and spatial patterns, dynamics and sustainable development of natural resources, global changes and its regional response, interactions between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and lithosphere and the relationship between these natural processes and human activities at regional and global level. Besides we welcome articles from scientific community from the fields of Meteorology, Remote Sensing, GIS, Cartography, Regional Planning and Social Sciences.

The first issue consisting of five original research articles (Hussain et al., 2017; Nagpal, et al. 2017; Parihar et al., 2017; Said, 2017 and Suhail, 2017) is the testimony of the diversity and quality of the papers.

Since this is the maiden venture and thus subject to improvements based on your comments, observations and suggestions.  I seek your   support and cooperation in making the Journal of Geographical Studies a true research journal.
