Abstract

This paper traces the role of Moroccan women’s organizations in combating violence against women. To achieve this, the paper makes use of the different cases and milestones that have been used by women’s organizations to pressure, lobby and network to criminalize all forms of violence against women in Morocco. The paper is part of a larger research project on the women’s movement in Morocco. The project started in 2006 and is still ongoing. The fieldwork consists of frequent visits to the organizations that make up the movement, interviews with their leadership and analysis of the different documents and reports produced by these bodies. Tracking the mobilizations of women’s organizations helps in understanding the broader discussion on the activism led by women’s organizations and the different changes and types of reforms they achieve.
