Open Access Policy 2026–27
This policy applies to all journals published by GATHA COGNITION®: Remote Sensing of Land, Feminist Research, Hydrospatial Analysis and Journal of Geographical Studies. Journals we host for other institutions or societies may set their own charges, shown on the journal’s home page.
Download PDFAll articles submitted to our journals in 2026 are published free of charge and are freely accessible to readers — no APC. From 2027, the choice between Standard publication and Open Access Plus described here applies again.
Two ways your article is published
Open Access Plus
- Free for anyone, anywhere, to read and download, for good
- One article processing charge (APC), paid only after acceptance
- Copyright stays with the author(s); CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence
- Crossref DOI, Cite button and “Cited by” list
Standard publication
- The same peer review, editing and publication
- No charge to the author
- Title and abstract free for everyone; readers and libraries buy access to the full text
- The same Crossref DOI and citation tools
There is no submission fee and no fee for peer review. Choosing Open Access is entirely the author’s decision and is never a condition of publication.
Article processing charge (APC)
One price per article, whatever its length, for all our journals.
- The country tier follows the corresponding author’s institution, using the current World Bank income list.
- Students (as corresponding author, with proof of enrolment) get 50% off any price above.
- Ask for a discount or waiver when you submit. Fees and waivers are handled by our office and never affect the editorial decision — editors and reviewers do not see them.
- Some journals hosted for institutions or societies are free for authors because the host covers the cost; this is shown on the journal’s home page.
- Institutions and funders can prepay 10 Open Access Plus articles at 20% off (₹60,000 or US$1,600), usable in any of our journals within two years.

- Copyediting, composition and author proofs
- Crossref DOI, CrossMark and ORCID
- Online-first publication with Google Scholar tags
- Cite button and “Cited by” list
How to pay the APC
- After your article is accepted, sign in to your author account on the Manuscript Portal® and use Pay APC for the article.
- Pay online in Indian Rupees (cards, UPI, net banking) or in US Dollars (PayPal). Institutions paying for their authors can ask for an invoice.
- Your article is published as Open Access once the payment is confirmed.
Copyright and licence
The copyright of Open Access content remains with the author(s), or their institute(s) or funding agencies. Open Access content is published under the Creative Commons licence CC BY-NC-ND 4.0: credit must be given to the creator, only non-commercial uses are permitted, and no derivatives or adaptations may be made without permission. Articles not published as Open Access are published under copyright transferred to GATHA COGNITION®, as set out in our Terms & Conditions.

Refunds and taxes
APCs are non-refundable once paid; a payment made twice by mistake for the same article is refunded in full, as set out in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
About GST: no GST is charged on our services at present. If GST becomes applicable under government regulations in future, it will be added at the prevailing rate to invoices raised from that date, and we will tell you before you sign or pay.

This policy applies to articles accepted from 11 October 2026 until 31 March 2027 and may be updated after that; the version in force on the date of acceptance applies.
